Module 08 of 11 · 10 min

The Today Queue

Why it matters

Work you already owe on a project should reach your day without retyping, and without changing the project’s record.

In this module you will

  • Accept queued project work into empty action rows.
  • Explain why accepting an item does not change the project’s status, dates or owner.

The idea

On the original site, the Today Queue offers you work you already owe on a project. It is sorted into Today, This week and Later. Accepting an item copies it into an empty action row and notes where it came from. It skips text that is already on the sheet and leaves any overflow in the queue. It does not change the project’s status, dates or owner.

In the form, the queue sits at the top of step 4 (Schedule), above today’s actions: tick the items you will actually do and add them in one click, with their suggested letters. The original reads your projects from the Compass project desk, using the email on the project’s resource register. That connection is not part of this prototype; the planner shows example project work so you can practice the same rule.

Step by step

  1. Why The plan stays the record of what is owed; the sheet stays the record of how the day is ordered.

Accept the Today items you will actually do, and letter them.

Worked example: the CEO

From the scalable growth program: “Review the SKU decision log before the portfolio review” (Today), “Prepare the integration model options” (This week).

Practice it in the Daily Management form

This module is step 4 of the form: Schedule today’s actions. What you enter there is saved on this device, so you can come back to it.

Open step 4

Exercise

  1. Accept the Today items you will actually do.
  2. Change any suggested letter that is wrong for your day.
